You could say that it all started with a math problem. That problem brought on the challenge of more complex math problems. Humans were performing these complex math problems using various methods. Then came the abacus: a simple instrument designed to aid in performing mathematical calculations. One might say that this is where computer training began: the first teacher training the first student on the operation of the abacus.

For those still beginning in the I.T. industry, ITIL may ring a bell. It means Information Technology Infrastructure Library, a set of concepts and practices for managing IT. It was established in the 1980s when the then-called Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA), now known as Office of Government Commerce (OGC), was instructed to create an approach for efficient and cost efficient use of IT resources. Their goal was to develop an approach that is not dependent on any provider, which resulted in what we call now as ITIL.
